The Dracula Tour

A historic tour of all those places related to the cruel  Vlad the Impeller - Dracula. This is not meant to be a scary horror tour, but a pleasant enjoyable walk through the bloody times of  Dracula.

Day 1

Welcome to Romania

Arrival at Bucharest Otopeni airport; transfer to Hotel for your first night in Romania.

Day 2

Bucharest city tour

City tour of Bucharest in the morning: visit the ruins of the Princely Palace and the second largest building in the world, the Palace of Parliament - a legacy of a more recent "Dracula" - the communist dictator assassinated in 1989 - Ceausescu.

Drive to Targoviste, the capital of Wallachia during Prince Vlad the Impeller time, for dinner and the opportunity to visit the ruins of the Royal court which shelters many dramatic stories of greed, justice and cruelty.

Day 3

The real castle of Dracula

Visit the ruins of Poienari - perched high on a rugged crag over the Arges gorge. The 1480 stairs lead us to Dracula's "vulture nest" fortress.

In 1462 Prince Vlad was besieged here by the Turks. He sent to the village of Arefu across the hill for help but his wife, fearful of capture, threw herself into the river far below.

The villagers came at night and managed to smuggle the Prince across the high Carpathians to the safety of Transylvania and, in return, he gave them 16 mountains as pastureland, a reward they still remember, more than 500 years later!

Drive to Sighisoara Lunch in the house where Prince Dracula - Vlad the Impeller was born.

Day 4

Sighisoara - Dracula's childhood

There will be a guided walk round the old walled Sighisoara town, one of the best preserved in Europe.

You will enter the clock tower, climb the dark covered stairs to the gloomy cemetery, walk around the thick walls of this amazing citadel

Visit Rasnov Fortress - once owned by Mircea the Old, Dracula's grand father

Drive pass Bran Castle, and stop at Moeciu for the night

Accommodation in Moeciu.

Day 5 -  

Bran Castle and Brasov

Visit Bran Castle (1377), set to stop the crowds from pestering the solitude of the Count - most are stopped but not on this tour!

After lunch, tour medieval Brasov - one of the former Saxon strongholds of Transylvania, known also as Kronstadt.

Great sites to visit as The Black Church, the main square, the old defense walls that are still well preserved on the south and west side of the old city the watch towers and the narrowest street in Europe are just a few points on this day's agenda.

Accommodation in Moeciu.

Day 6

Transfer to Bucharest Airport

Tour price 790 Euro  / person (Tour price is based on double occupancy Single supplements are 90 Euro)
